mystery vacation

Matt and I were going to go to the Outer Banks, NC next week, but we have had to change those plans at the last minute due to family happenings. Now we are left scrambling to schedule a great (but inexpensive) vacation that doesn't involve pricey airfare. Does anyone have any ideas?

Our Boston apartment is open while we are in Midland for the summer. I still owe you two for housing me (more so my brown suitcase) in NYC for that summer long ago.

Great idea! If you go to Boston, you can stay at Ashley's place for free, and take day trips to Nantucket and the Cape. Best of all, you can go to Moby Dick's, which is just about the best eating I've ever had in my life.

Other alternatives: San Francisco, close and always beautiful, you can still go to beaches in Santa Cruz and Pacifica.

Road trip to the Dakotas. Okay, no beach. But this part of the country is beautiful and so intriguing to me.

Yellowstone? So Cal? Sometimes you can find decent last minute fares to Mexico?
Oh geez. I'm jealous, and the possibilities are endless.

Go to Telluride! It's so pretty. I always think Torrey, Utah, looks like an interesting visit, as well.

Or opt for the Dakotas. I think they have a strange draw too.
