timorous or bold

Thanks to my Aunt Deborah for her inspiring post on Seamus Heaney. This passage from one of his poems resonated with me so strongly this week:

"The way we are living,
timorous or bold,
will have been our life.”

He is amazing. I remember finding out we were studying Beowulf in a college class and being irritated because I wasn't a huge epic poetry fan and wasn't really interested in Beowulf the last time I had studied it. But as I started reading, I was so moved and intrigued by the translation we were reading by Seamus Heaney. Every line became important, every description gripping. It was an incredible experience.

I love Seamus Heaney. Especially the poem "Digging". One of my best friends is Irish, and really loves his poetry too!

What a great poem--simple and powerful, no frills.
